Gunsmiths were all booked. So I said fuck it, and drilled my own sight post...how fucked am I?

in a few weeks you'd be committing a felony in NY
Also, I don't care.
It was a $77 Barrel and upper that I wanted to experiment with. First build and I got cocky
I'd say purty fucked personally but I'm no gunsmith.
I took a different approach with the FSB's. I drilled and tapped the FSB in two places for set screws. Up from underneath in the bayonet lug and through the front sling spot before I put the swivel on. Then I dimpled the barrel in corresponding places. Worked fairly well.
Because I'm a backward ass autistt I actually have a gas block that's handling all the gas stuff the front sight post is literally just there for looks and a hold my stabby stick. Where I drilled did not go through the actual barrel, thankfully
You think it's unsafe? It's no where near the bore
It may not be in the bore, but it'll still weaken the structural integrity. I've no authority to say whether it's safe or not, but that looks sketchy as fuck to me. Test fire remotely, perhaps?
It's the end of the barrel... By the time the gas has expanded that much there won't be an issue with pressure. It will be inaccurate because of the messed up barrel, but what else is new with AKs?
Edit: I'm retarded and blind. Probably won't affect it still.
This is why you restrict your hole-drilling to the lower receiver only.
Doesn't look like it's into the bore - taper reamer, hammer in tapered pins good n tight, she's like your favorite meth; ugly but gtg.
In the future, a center punch, drill press, and vise make it much easier to put holes in metal right where you want them.
