Read the 1982 Subcommittee Report on the true meaning of the second amendment. It's called "The Right to Keep and Bear Arms." Google has a scan of it. It's 200 pages long, and goes into depth on what the founding fathers' true intent was, citing their notes, drafts, news papers, all that shit.

Basically, it means we have the individual right to military arms for both personal protection and the preservation of freedom, AKA slotting tyrants, if the need be.
