My 30.06 would have a word with you on who is the superior full sized rifle cartridge. The only reason I say words and don't outright discredit your cartridge is because of Simo Hayah and his massive commie body count.
54R is definitely inferior to the can of whoop ass that is 30-06. I think it is still on the hotter end of it's generation of military cartridges. 8mm Lebel and Mauser are prolly weaker than 54R. Your 30-06 cartridges were also prolly made a year before you bought it instead of decades.
8mm mauser is a hell of a lot stronger than 54r, presuming you are shooting the real stuff and not the underloaded commercial shit. It is on par with 30-06 energy wise, just with a heavier bullet
I will always differ to the saami specs for the reality of the cartridges. That said 54r isn't weak at all but, not .30-06. Modern hunting loads are top of the line for .30-06 and can be fired by the 1903's today. So compared to 8mm it depends on the load.
Well if, you wanna go to with a full sized rifle round, that's a respectable round. It's larger heavier and prolly faster, (Idk personally) I'm just trying to put 5.56 in a more respectful place than it had been before. 7.62x54R has a larger wound channel so, if you wanna trade capacity for lethality be my guest.
Ya man, one of the big advantages is local people can share hoards of this ammo in a big luau and arm the populace. They won't share until they have to tho lol. Make sure you have enough mags too!
7.62x39 is a great choice too! I had a few too many tendies when I made this post. Gotta spend the extra money to get reliable bullet construction tho. Hornady fusion are supposedly the best round in that caliber
6.5? If you got the ammo stockpile to back it up that's a fine choice for you if you need to hit longer ranges. I can't see more than 500 yards most of the time where I live. I've had my 5.56 rifle for almost a decade now so, I have plenty of .223. I can't jump ship at this point and, restart an ammo supply for a new gun.
I'm still unconverted, 7.62x54R gang rise up

7.62x51 has entered the room...
7.62x51 has been the only bullet in the room for months. Last round standing on the shelf
Maybe theres a reason for that...
And you can shoot .223! I'm one of those very late ammo buyers and this is saving me.

Meanwhile x39 keeps on trucking.
And you can get it for like 40 cents / round

Shit and here I am buying slav mil surplus commie rounds by the lead lined crate.
Ya they're expensive but are soft points that expand like crazy.
300 win mag gang
Nice! I cant even see far enough, where I'm from, to make good use of 300 win mag!
Unfortunately the longest range that's within a reasonable distance of me is only 600 yards but I hope to get to a 1000 yard range someday.
(laughs in 6.8 grendel)

Not really a wrong answer here, the right answer is the one that's right for you.
I saw 5.45 talking a lot of unsubstantiated shit on here awhile back. There are definitely better cartridges than 5.56 but, none are as cool atm.
Nuhh brooo my green tip is armor piercing its the best
