Was curious so I searched it. The first few results were shit. I thought it was suspiciously brief as well.
I live near there, and I know people who live there and lived there when it happened. In fact I recently had a private conversation with someone with more intimate details of the...go figure...politics of the town and events leading up to the incident at the time. There is an annual festival memorializing the guy Tom shot and some comments were made on local FB page announcing this years event with an older article posted, which led to a discussion, some of it spurred by some innocuous questioning from me. Surprisingly it didn't get shut down by screeching Karens, and the author of the article acknowledged there is a lot of stark omissions from the investigation and reports at the time. The mayor had actually recently resigned over the hiring of a town marshall and there was a lot of other drama going on. All brushed over locally and articles definitely helped. For instance the article you pulled up said Tom was angry over a water tap fee. Apparently, he never connected to the water, or sewer, and the town condemned his ancestral home in retaliation. He was burning the house bit by bit because he knew it would soon be taken and given/sold to one of the mayors chronys, so he wasn't making it easy. The mayor apparently used his position to bully a lot of the locals, along with his buddies. There are several people in the tiny town who insist the mayor was the villain and Tom the victim, but powers that be would never want to allow any sympathetic testimony to appear on the record. The same thing happened with Heemeyer and if you discuss it in local forums you will get viciously attacked for any sympathetic rhetoric, and shills will show up telling outright lies about what happened.
