6.5 Grendel out of a 12.5" barrel. Carbine handling but can still buck wind at range better than a 20" 5.56 AR.
No it's not gonna outshoot your 20" 6.5 Creedmoor but the above setup is my new "if I could only take one" setup. Not to mention 6.5G Wolf is cheaper than 5.56 right meow.
This is the same setup I have, same concept of a rifle to do a bit of everything. Overall I'm pretty impressed. Downsides I've noticed so far (mine is a cheap build):
1.) Lower ammo/magazine capacity (duh) 2.) Increased recoil. A 5.56 AR is like shooting a 22LR and allows for fast follow-up shots. A 6.5 grendel with a short barrel isn't bad, but it's a little worse. Also, a pistol brace isn't as good as a stock, but unfortunately you have to deal with that or an SBR permission slip.
3.) I had some feeding issues with my elander magazines. I'd probably use the smaller capacity ASC magazines if I was in a serious fight since I've had no issues with their reliability.
Upsides, there's a lot.
