I actually have quite a bit of experience with shotguns for blapping lizards. The shotguns I have the most experience with are tube fed Benellis and rem 870s.
Mag fed shotguns actually have a few disadvantages. The mags are bulky and can be a pain in the ass to deal with. The shotgun is best in tube fed in my opinion.
Think of the shotgun tactically as a very, very large pistol. Those short range defensive engagements that one might handle with a pistol the shotgun can settle VERY DECISIVELY. With the added bonus of the slug round turning the gat into a short range rifle. You have low capacity in shotguns in general and when you're not shooting you're reloading.
Get ghost ring sights or just mount a good optic like you would an AR. It's 2020, we can do better than bead sights. You do absolutely have to aim. Think of the shotgun spread as a tool to help shot placement rather than accuracy. Put a good pattern on that torso and that lizard joins epstein in hell. You just have to do your part and hit.
Modern ammo spreads about .5 inch of pattern for 1 yard of travel. Use to be the 1 inch but ammo and guns just keep getting better.
The Benelli M4 is the greatest shotgun ever made. They cost way, way too much unless you're addicted to euro gats (I am and have one and it is the sex). The rem autos suuuuuuuuuck. The best gas operated shotguns besides Benelli are the mossberg 930spx and the FN SLP. They are good guns. Benelli inertia guns are hawt af too but you can't add accessories too much like lights and optics.
The kel tec ksg is aids. I definitely wanna try that IWI shotgun with the revolving tubes. Don't know much about it other than that I can't afford one.
If you have to, have to get a mag fed for fucks sake get an AK variant in 12guage. They are some good guns if you have a LOT of time and money and like to carry 7 5rd mags.
Good luck and holler if you have questions. Shotguns are good.
Soooooooooooooo expensive. You could buy a damn good shotgun, pile ammo and take a training class with money left over for what one of the NFA variants cost.
As far as use, a semi auto with a 30 rd drum is pretty cool. Heavy af and unwieldy but awesome.
It honestly makes me feel better that there are shotguns more expensive than my M4.
You could say the same about the M4 in that it is a really, really expensive niche weapon. I just really wanted one and am glad I got it.
If you want an origin go for it and please let me shoot it. If that's your "gun I gotta have no matter what" than hell yeah man. I just think as far as fighting shotguns there are better or just as good as for less money.
