The "communist brainwashing" is actually demoralization. They erode away a person's morale and convince them that they're so oppressed that the only way forward is to become rabidly anti-(insert sitting authority here).
It works on young people who don't have anything to lose. It works on people who are too timid to participate in society and/or the economy. It works on people who are already angry and have convinced themselves that they are victims.
Remoralization is an uphill battle. It requires giving someone the tools to make something of themselves and then stepping away and letting them build themselves up. These people need to see that they can get ahead even with a minimum of effort. They need to be allowed to win at SOMETHING or else they'll say the game is rigged and try to end it.
There are also a decent number of leftists/marxists who actually have attained some sort of success in our society, and simply feel guilty about it. To squelch their guilt, they beg to be taxed (without considering how it would affect other people like themselves), and beg to be oppressed by minorities, and beg to be blamed for all the ill in the world. They think that makes them "one of the good ones" and they'll be treated with exception when the revolution happens.
But the only people treated with exception after the revolution will be the elites who goaded all these useful idiots to action. That is, of course, assuming they even win. Which they won't. In a nation of 300,000,000+, somewhere around 10-50,000 people are causing chaos. Not all of them are even radical leftists. Plenty are just opportunists who decide to go smash and grab whenever a black man resists arrests and dies in the process.
The vast majority of Americans do not want revolution, do not want minority rule, and do not want the status quo to change. They want to continue consooming and cooming. And when push comes to shove, they'll side with whomever won't change too much.
