exactly what I was going for. I'd been on the hunt for a busted old model 11 to do this exact build for several years and finally found the one I was looking for.
Model 11's are great and I'd feel marginally less bad chopping one over an Auto-5
Will this thing still cycle? Aren't these gas operated, and the dwell time here is approximately zero?
Besides Barrow & Dillinger gangs using them, Remington made a riot gun version with ~3-4" longer barrel. So I'd say they worked cut down -

About a week late, but browning’s humpback design is recoil operated, not gas.
Have always dug the whip-it concept. Did not do a deep search for it but somewhere is a pic of one of Barrow's that shows the leather loop at the stock end. You slipped your arm through that and let the strap ride on your shoulder. With a regular coat on a few inches of the muzzle would peek out but you could conceal that with your hand. Raise your arm up, shift hand positions, and it was ready to go. Hence whip it for whip it out. As cool as this one IMO -
