What plates, carrier, and helmet should I get?
I've been looking too. I think the hesco 4601 looks like a good option. Carriers is pretty much anything that is in stock. For a helmet get this. Jk helmets are for 🅱️aggets.
The Target in Portland has a special on plates and some carrying baskets. Sure you could also get a helmet too. All you gotta do is hang a tman won sign off the roof and you can get all the plates you want for free.

Finally last time I looked at plates critically there was a hybrid polymer aramid one that was claimed to be reliably stopping m855 despite not being rated for that. Are plates like that still a thing and not cost the better half of a grand?
Ar500 doesnt certify to NIJ but claim to certify to that level; it’s whether or not you trust their word and the spalling debacle makes it questionable. Additionally, they’re level 3+ won’t stop 556 out of a 20” barrel so it’s up to you how much protection you’re looking for.
