Is there appreciable benefit to anodizing it over just spraypainting it? What if I don't give many fucks about it?
Rust-Oleum dark gray primer and a week on the dashboard makes a plenty tough enough finish for government work.
I built a similar raw/unfinished lower and didn't even bother with the primer, just sprayed it down with some consumer-grade degreaser and then rattle can. If it flakes off, I have plenty more spray paint.
Try the Rust-Oleum. It doesn't flake off but it will scratch off. Not easily though.
Like you say there's always more in the rattle can for touch ups. You could literally do 4 or 5 lowers at least with 1 can.
For a rifle that gets used and abused it's perfect for that hogged out for 80%er we've all got laying around.
Works on AKs too if you like your commie guns flat rather than shiny.
I like my commie guns buried next to the commies, thank you very much.
But thanks, I'll try the primer next time and see how that helps durability!
