I think the main reason was getting rid of the Bradly chassis, those were maintenance pigs. The commonality of the Himars with an LMTV makes a lot of sense logistically. But overall I think the MLRS was better. lower profile for getting in a hide, better mobility over rough terrain, and ofc twice the pods.
