Build it really well, check out if you need any permits/permissions or if there are any ordinances stopping you, and then never ask permission again and just do it.

There was a guy in the town i grew up in that built his own range by basically buying 30 acres of a v shaped small valley and people were so prissy they tried to pass an ordinance banning shooting on private property of less than 100 contiguous acres because their weak commie ears couldn’t handle the sound of freedom. The lesson being make sure you’re far away from people

I mean even benign things can double as self defense measures. i store my completely full propane grill on my front porch in clear sight from my window. My paving stones are deliberately uneven. My dogs are rewarded with treats for barking at all passerby.
