Besides Barrow & Dillinger gangs using them, Remington made a riot gun version with ~3-4" longer barrel. So I'd say they worked cut down -

Have always dug the whip-it concept. Did not do a deep search for it but somewhere is a pic of one of Barrow's that shows the leather loop at the stock end. You slipped your arm through that and let the strap ride on your shoulder. With a regular coat on a few inches of the muzzle would peek out but you could conceal that with your hand. Raise your arm up, shift hand positions, and it was ready to go. Hence whip it for whip it out. As cool as this one IMO -

Bonnie & Clyde and John Dillinger approve, whip-it good -

u/AlcohicRetard, no disagreement there. Majority of my handguns are blue steel & wood including my EDC. All have appreciated dramatically over what I paid for them years ago. Am now looking at S&W MP Shield 9MM as my EDC. Why? It's cheap and it's a tool. If I drop it and kick it across the garage floor I won't care as there are millions more just like like it. It has no inherent value beyond what it does and is not unique or collectable. All my golden era guns move into range toy category once I have my new EDC.
Aside: I used to have a model 36 RB w/ 3" barrel and a 37 Airweight. The 36 I sold off like a retard and the 37 was stolen by the cops after it was recovered after being stolen from me. Fuckers.
Cheap & reliable usually don't go together in guns. Hi-Point seems to have figured that out. No I don't own one but they seem like a solid choice to put in your vehicle toolbox, under all the tools. Not only that, you can find a total parts kit on ebay for the cost of stripped Glock slide then 3D print the frame for it -

I've topomapped my property and there are motion sensors all over tied into my cameras. Every potential spot of cover has been eliminated or made unusable with holly bushes or ponds. Any longshots to the property are now obscured by dense pines with more holly at their bases. Finally there is double fencing around the perimeter and my 3 pits & 1 Alsatian roam it at night. The tops of both are electrified. If you want my Totinos you better be invisible and on stilts.
