Asking because local BellasProAss actually has a Savage 110 Tactical Southpaw in 6.5 Meme. And guns in the handedness of Gun Judas are fucking hard to find even in the best of times. But is Mememoore just a fad that is already passing with the PRC's being the new hotness? I know it has seen limited adoption by the military, and my grandpappy said buy shit the military uses, but by army guys who have personal ammo budgets higher than the entire yearly budget of my local sheriff's department. And they can change on a whim should "the mission dictate".
Normally I'd go with .308 because I already stock it for the Cold War Rifle collection, or at least Full NATO. I've avoided Mememoore because if I had followed every trend I'd have a .260 Remington, 6.5 Grendel, 6.8SPC, all of which was to be the next big thing then faded.
I could ask long range shooters, but they're kinda assholes plus sniff the manufactures and guntubers/bloggers farts. Figure autists would be the better perspective.
And, yea, I say unto you that all calibers are blessed in the eyes of Stoner and Browning. Even that faggy .224 and 6mm ARC.
Milfag here. So first off the military has no fucking clue what it's doing, remember they're looking at three new weapons and each is buck wild. One of which uses that Textron telescoping ammo cartridge, another uses the 6.8 in a fucking plastic case that's 30% lighter, on the other a steel/brass combo round. They are also looking at a norma magnum round. It will be one of those three because that's who the DoD narrowed it down to. Good fucking luck and guessing which one, and remember each of them use a radically different firing system than anything we're used to.
So to answer your question get something that's 50 BMG and if they don't have that then get the sinister savage. People that have creedmoor all seem to like it and people that don't have creedmoor don't care.
so pick a side
I thought they had adopted 6.5 Meme in the M110 platform a couple years ago? But I think that was just SOCOM, which doesn't count because they have procurement beyond normal channels. Aka if they want something they just go buy it...or steal it...or whatever the mission "dictates".
Yeah SF guys get flexible budgets and since they buy in small numbers they can do whatever. They all rock 1911s too...just made by Kimber and shit

The thought line is that in early OIF/OEF the hadjis couldn't fight in the open so they ended up forcing a lot of urban fighting. The M4 was great for that so we retooled and that basically became standard. As Iraq "ended" and Afjamistan kept rocking reports came back of engagements over 400 yards. So we need more legs on the rounds.
Looking forward to having more enemies with body armor (except the ChiComms because, quote, it zaps the fighting sport away) we need to be able to bust shells. 5.56 ain't great for that. 7.62 is but the weight/recoil is tough (they let girls in the infantry now?!?!) So, light weight, flat flying, armor popping 6.8 rocks are going to get thrown
But if you really want to get scared, check out how much money the army is investing into underground warfare training
So we're finally going to war with the lizard people?
I always thought it was mole people
There’s a lot of commies underground but I think that mostly has to do with mass graves.
I've seen so many tryhard fudds buy that shit in an attempt to not be a fudd... all that happens is that they become elitist fudds with their superior caliber so they can smoke the same pissant 90 lbs yearling does at 50 yards on opening morning in the dense clusterfuck of SE Missouri's woods.
So, in short, yes. It's gonna hang on for a while. Fudds have hitched their wagon to that train.
Lmao. I own a 6.5 CM. This is good shit.
Oh, don't get me wrong... I think its a great cartridge and owning one doesn't make you fudd. I'm just saying that I think its here to stay partially because the fudd elite have bought into its superiority. 1000 yards before it starts dropping, baby.
I still maintain that .308 is the better hunting choice as there's still more hunting bullet options out there.
The rifle I really want is made by Tikka, but Beretta doesn't import the southpaw version. I could buy a T3X southpaw superlight (I think that's the cheapest), then get a MDT chasis or Boyds At-One and have it bedded and add a 20 or 30 MOA rail. But that gets to be a $1200 - $2200 affair pretty quick. Or could get a Savage for $600, spend another $600 on the glass and not have to do a god damn thing other than adding a muzzle device or a can or a muzzle device for a can.
Honestly man, as a fellow southpaw, learn to manipulate right handed guns. You'll save money and in the large ice house chances are any rifles you may pick up off of dead minecraft creepers will be right handed (in minecraft). You'll want to work up that muscle memory.
I've done the right handed thing with Lee-Enfield's, 1903's, 1917's, Commercial Mausers, cheap Axis & T/C Compass rifles, and old .22 bolt guns, etc. for 40 years. Wasn't a really a problem with open sights/iron sighted guns, but as the eyes get older and the need for scopes become a thing...yeah I'm buying something to fit me.
You're not wrong with the point about bullets and hunting. I really think of them as about equal for practical hunting use (as far as how I'd use them)... less recoil is nice for the 6.5, but 308 does have more selection.
Also, get the Savage. My dad has a stock .243 110 model that's fucking lights out even with a cheap ass scope. Granted, its about 8 years old now... I'm hoping quality has stayed approximately the same.
I gots a 10fp that has done me right.
I'll have you know I smoked my doe in the slightly less dense clusterfuck of SW Missouri's woods/corn fields. That said, I was shooting a 6BR so that might make me more Fudd and offset things since it has "benchrest" in the name.
Either way, the deer nearly hit my cousin's truck 5 minutes earlier so I had no choice but to shoot that one instead of waiting for something else. Gotta show them deer the consequences for being an asshole pedestrian.
The 6.5 creed has its merits and isn't all fudd hype. I don't think it's going to be a fad in the way 7mm-08 was to 80s fudds. Is still accurate past 1,200 yards so it's cemented itself for at least the next 8 to 10 years as the go to for distance shooting newcomers as well as just about everyone and their dog chambering a rifle in it now.
The thing that would steer me to the 308 would be barrel life. It's something like 2-3x what you get from the 6.5.
With that said, you probably won't have a problem finding ammo in the near future (any more than any other ammo anyway). You certainly won't have an issue finding brass and bullets to keep loading for it. Even a 260 Rem can reasonably be fed.
OP, if I was buying a 6.5 I'd pick a rifle that uses a barrel nut like that Savage you're looking at so I could change out the barrel myself. Even in a bolt action, a 6.5 would only last ~5years of fairly consistent plinking if you shoot for groups, but if you do PRC matches regularly you'll end up replacing barrels nearly every year.
Here's the thing - lots of people talk about barrel life but the number of people who actually shoot enough to burn out a barrel is very low. I burnt out one 6.5 Creedmoor barrel, after shooting 3,500 rounds of ammo through it. Even reloading that shit at 40cpr that's $1,400 of ammo, and if you shoot factory ammo it's going to be $3,000+ to shoot that much and your barrel might even last a bit longer than mine did since I was using pissin' hot loads (147gr bullets at 2900fps, the same as the factory 6.5 PRC loads).
A nice new Criterion barrel for a Savage rifle will run you $370. The rifle itself cost like $500, and you're worried about the barrel lasting longer than thousands of rounds and dollars worth of ammo down the tube? If you can spend $1,500+ on the ammo required to burn out a barrel, you can spend the $370 to re-barrel that shit afterwards.
6.5 mememoore is just one in a long line of meme carts. If you're a reloader, then it could be a fun cart to try, but if you buy off the shelf even ball ammo is going to be crazy expensive going forward.
People are confused about the military contract. They're taking bids and designs for a completely new cart. It will feature a 6.5mm bullet, but the case will probably be different. It's not set to be 6.5 mememoore and probably won't be.
Why does the military matter? Aren't those the same cucks that let a muslim non-citizen occupy the Whitehouse for eight years? Are they incompetent or complicit in the subversion of democracy? These are all completely valid questions.
The military contract matters because whatever they choose will become more affordable in the civilian market. Look at the difference in price for something like .308 vs any other 30 cal cart with similar case capacity. That affordability and availability will be the most important part of your experience with the weapon.
BOTTOM LINE If you just want to spend money, you can. If you want a rifle chambered in a cart you'll be able to find for a decent price(OR AT ALL), you might want to wait, or fall in love with some other gun.
